Psychology and Wellbeing Services

Specialist mental health and wellbeing services

We work in partnership with individuals, their whānau/family, and support networks to deliver high-quality, evidence-based wellbeing and psychology services. Our clinical psychologists, psychologists and counsellors are highly trained and registered with New Zealand professional bodies, ensuring safe, effective care.

We offer assessment and treatment for a wide range of mental health needs across all age groups – children/tamariki, young people/rangatahi and adults. Our team is experienced in psycho-diagnostic assessments, providing culturally appropriate and timely support for individuals with complex needs.

We deliver both short- and long-term interventions, matching you or your whānau with the most suitable clinician and supporting access to funding where possible. Our services are available in Wellington, Napier and Hastings, with the option of face-to-face or telehealth appointments.

Our psychology and wellbeing services

Support for people who have experienced a significant injury

ACC Concussion: Our team uses evidence-based strategies to help manage both the cognitive and emotional effects of a head injury. We also provide support if the concussion was caused by a traumatic event you’re finding difficult to move past.

ACC Training for Independence (TI) referral: A significant physical injury can take a toll on your emotional wellbeing. Our psychologists can help address the emotional impact of your injury—such as low mood, anger or anxiety—and support your progress by teaching strategies to manage these challenges and promote healing.

ACC Behaviour Support: We can help you improve your quality of life and achieve the goals that matter most to you. We work alongside you and your support network to build new skills and increase independence, so you can live a meaningful life with greater confidence and fewer limitations. Choose Geneva Wellbeing as your preferred provider when talking to your ACC service coordinator.

ACC Psychological Services: We can support you to manage any psychological challenges that may be impacting on your recovery from a physical injury. Working closely with you and ACC, our goal is to help you achieve the best possible outcomes on your recovery journey.

Support for people who have experienced sexual abuse

The ACC Sensitive Claims service provides support for people affected by sexual abuse that occurred while living in New Zealand. You can access therapy with one of our registered sensitive claims therapists – free of charge.

You don’t need to have reported the incident to police or share detailed accounts of what happened. You’re welcome to talk through your situation with a therapist in a safe, supportive environment.

Our therapists will guide you through the treatment options available under the ACC Sensitive Claims service and help you find the approach that best suits your needs. Both short- and long-term treatment pathways are available.

We understand the importance of privacy. That’s why we work closely with ACC to ensure your information and therapy remain completely confidential.

Support for people who experience mental health concerns or want to improve their mental wellbeing

Our team has a wide range of skills and expertise, which means we can ensure you’re matched with a clinician who’s most appropriate to your needs.

Whether you’re seeking general wellbeing support or need psychological services related to trauma, injury or stress, we tailor our care to your needs.

Our team helps those with mild, moderate or severe mental health conditions, as well as providing support adjusting to normal life challenges or transition periods. We work with children, adolescents and adults.

For emergency service workers or frontline health workers

We have a strong track record of supporting frontline workers dealing with stress, burnout and personal challenges. Our specialised tools help you navigate experiences that fall outside the norm, whether recent or historic. With our expertise in trauma recovery, we’ll support you to feel and perform your best—both at work and in everyday life.

Our neuropsychological assessments

Our neuropsychological assessments are designed to help clarify how your brain is functioning and what your strengths and areas of difficulty might be. It has two parts: an interview to hear about your issues, concerns and background information, followed by testing of various types of thinking and brain functioning (called cognitive testing).

Psychological issues such as depression and anxiety can affect our brain’s performance, so you can expect to be asked some questions about your emotional wellbeing in the interview. After a face-to-face interview and testing, the clinician then scores and interprets the tests, and a report of the findings is usually written. A feedback session is then typically given to summarise the findings and provide recommendations.

Some of our assessment includes:

  • Intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental assessments (IDDA)
  • Autism assessment (ASD)
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder assessment (ADHD)
  • Educational assessments
  • Supported assessments (ACC)

Our therapy approaches

Our team uses a range of evidence-based and client-centred approaches tailored to meet your unique needs. These therapies support emotional healing, improve wellbeing and build resilience across a wide range of experiences and challenges.

Our approaches include client-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), narrative approaches, solution-focused brief therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Hakomi.
