Move Well, Work Well
Practical manual handling & safe movement training

Help your team move with confidence, work more comfortably, and reduce the risk of strain and injury with Geneva Wellbeing’s practical
manual handling programme – Move Well, Work Well

What is manual handling?

Manual handling, as defined by WorkSafe New Zealand, is any activity that requires a person to use their body to move or support a load. This includes:

  • Lifting
  • Lowering
  • Pushing
  • Pulling
  • Carrying
  • Holding loads

These tasks are a common part of many roles across healthcare, warehousing, manufacturing, and construction. When performed incorrectly or repeatedly, they can place unnecessary stress on the body and contribute to discomfort, fatigue, and injury.

Why safe manual handling matters

Safe movement techniques help employees work effectively while protecting their long-term health and wellbeing. Our training helps participants:

  • Work safely and effectively
  • Reduce tiredness and unnecessary strain on their body
  • Improve balance, control, and confidence when lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
  • Support healthy muscles, joints, and movement patterns
  • Lower the risk of strains, aches, and overuse injuries
  • Improve teamwork and workplace efficiency
  • Develop practical skills they can apply both at work and in everyday life

Safe manual handling isn’t just about lifting correctly – it’s about moving smarter, staying in control, and looking after your body so you can continue performing comfortably and safely over time.

Our Move Well, Work Well programme

At Geneva Wellbeing, we take a practical, evidence-based approach to manual handling education. Rather than delivering generic training, we tailor each programme to the tasks, environments, and risks specific to your organisation and individual.

We take a two-part approach:

  1. Observation of your work, including key lines of work to ensure we understand your unique work environment and demands.
  2. Training implementation

Training can include:

  • Safe lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling techniques
  • Understanding how the body moves and responds to physical demands
  • Identifying and managing manual handling risks
  • Good movement habits for work and everyday life
  • Strategies to reduce fatigue and physical strain
  • Practical workplace-based scenarios and demonstrations
  • Team-based approaches to safer manual handling

Participants leave with simple, realistic strategies they can apply immediately in their role.

The team has successfully run the Train the Trainer session through our shift, and it was very well received by everyone. It was a good reminder of the importance of trainers taking ownership of the training process and keeping our standards consistent
